(NEDERLAND, Co., SHOT 6/7/2004).University of Colorado professor Tad Pfeffer of Nederland treks out of the Arapaho Glacier after completing his research work there one afternoon. He and others trekked in with ground penetrating radar to study snowpack levels in the glacier near Nederland. Scientists from the University of Colorado have been studying the effects of global warming on the Arapaho Glacier near Nederland for about five years. Using new techniques such as radar, the scientists are hoping to find the total amount of snowpack in the glacier and the long-term net loss of snowpack because of global warming. .(Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
